In addition to maintaining his litigation practice, Jim helps other litigants resolve their disputes as a mediator or arbitrator. Jim received formal mediator training at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution in Malibu, California. He is a shareholder at Dentons Durham Jones &amp; Pinegar in Salt Lake City.<\/p>\n<p>Jim is sought after for his sound and experienced advice, and practical, fair approach to resolving disputes.\u00a0Jim served as President of the Utah State Bar in 2014-15, and was a Utah Bar Commissioner from 2008-16.\u00a0He served as President of the Utah Chapter of the Federal Bar Association in 2000-01, and received the Distinguished Service Award by the FBA\u2019s Utah Chapter in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Jim has resolved hundreds of cases (representing plaintiffs and defendants) through mediation, arbitration, or trial in Utah\u2019s state and federal courts, in a wide variety of areas, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>business and contract disputes<\/li>\n<li>partnership disputes<\/li>\n<li>employment litigation<\/li>\n<li>fiduciary claims<\/li>\n<li>insurance (coverage, bad faith)<\/li>\n<li>non-compete agreements<\/li>\n<li>commercial leases<\/li>\n<li>construction disputes<\/li>\n<li>negligence<\/li>\n<li>defamation<\/li>\n<li>securities<\/li>\n<li>fraud and misrepresentation claims<\/li>\n<li>real estate<\/li>\n<li>property boundary disputes<\/li>\n<li>trademark and copyright<\/li>\n<li>banking<\/li>\n<li>mortgage foreclosure<\/li>\n<li>probate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jim graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1989, where he was an editor of the Utah Law Review. He was a judicial law clerk for U.S. District Judges J. Thomas Greene and Dee Benson, and also was a white collar criminal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Jim has been listed in Utah Business magazine as one of Utah\u2019s \u201cLegal Elite\u201d since 2005, in Mountain States\u2019 \u201cSuper Lawyers\u201d since 2008 (on its \u201cTop 100\u201d list in 2016), and is listed in \u201cBest Lawyers in America\u201d in the areas of commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, and insurance litigation.
