     Judge Pat Brian earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University and his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University.  He started his legal career as a prosecutor with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office in California.  He served as the chief of the Homicide Division and as chief of the Drug and Narcotic Task Force.  Judge Brian has the unique distinction of prosecuting more jury trials than any attorney in the history of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

     Judge Brian served in the United States Attorney’s Office in Anchorage, Alaska.  During his tenure with the Justice Department he handled major civil and criminal cases.  Prior to his appointment as a District Court Judge he practiced with the law firm of Nielsen and Senior. 

     In 1987 Judge Brian was appointed as a judge in the Third District Court.  He served for 19 years in Salt Lake, Tooele and Summit Counties.  He served as the Presiding Judge in West Valley and West Jordan.  During his career he served on numerous judicial committees and boards. He now serves as a Senior Judge.

     Judge Brian has taught at Pepperdine Law School and Brigham Young University Law School.  During his 24 years as an Adjunct Professor he has taught Evidence, Torts, Legal Writing and Criminal and Civil Trial Practice.  He has taught at the prestigious Fudan University Law School in Shanghai, China.  He has also taught law in Mongolia and Ukraine.    

     In 2006, Judge Brian was admitted as a life-time member of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission.  This commission consists of 400 retired judges who specialize in mediation and arbitration services.  Judge Brian is the only non-Chinese member of this group.

     During Judge Brian’s 40 year legal career he has mediated several hundred cases involving every category of civil litigation.  He is fair, firm and persistent.  He readily earns the trust and respect of lawyers and litigants who retain him.You will have confidence and satisfaction in his mediation skills.
